Aerospace production control is the planning, release, coordination, and monitoring of manufacturing work in aerospace production environments. It refers to the operational control of work orders, materials, routings, capacity, priorities, and production status as parts and assemblies move through defined fabrication, inspection, assembly, and test steps.
In aerospace manufacturing, production control commonly connects ERP planning, MES execution, shop floor dispatching, inventory status, quality holds, and supplier or subcontract operation status. It helps determine what work should be released, where it should go next, whether required material and tooling are available, and how delays, shortages, or nonconformances affect schedule and flow.
The term is related to production planning, shop floor control, and manufacturing execution, but it is not the same as quality control alone. Quality control focuses on inspection and conformance decisions, while production control focuses on coordinating the movement and status of work. In aerospace settings, production control often has added emphasis on serial and lot traceability, configuration control, approved routings, controlled work instructions, and visibility into work-in-process.
