AS9100 documentation control

AS9100 documentation control is the management of approved quality documents, revisions, access, and records in an aerospace QMS.

AS9100 documentation control is the management of documented information within an aerospace quality management system, including how documents are created, reviewed, approved, distributed, revised, retained, and made available for use.

In manufacturing and MRO environments, this commonly applies to procedures, work instructions, forms, inspection records, training records, specifications, and other quality-related information used to plan, execute, verify, or record work. The purpose is to ensure that personnel use the correct current information and that retained records remain identifiable and retrievable.

Documentation control is closely related to version control, record control, and change control, but it is not the same as general file storage. A controlled document typically has defined ownership, approval status, revision history, access rules, and distribution controls. A quality record is usually evidence of completed activity, such as an inspection result or signed traveler, and is managed for retention and traceability after creation.

AS9100 documentation control refers to practices aligned with the AS9100 aerospace quality management standard. It does not by itself indicate certification, audit acceptance, or regulatory approval.
