The most effective MES alerts for preventing aerospace scrap are targeted, few in number, and tied to clear, high‑risk failure modes, not generic alarms. They focus on specification limits, process holds, configuration and revision control, measurement drift, and operator sequencing. Effectiveness depends heavily on data quality, system integration, and disciplined alert governance to avoid alarm fatigue.

Aerospace teams should measure hold time from a defined hold-start event to a defined release event, with reason codes, ownership, and audit trails. Separate intentional process holds from unplanned quality, material, engineering, or MRB holds, and do not rely on averages alone.

In aerospace factories, digital work instructions usually sit alongside an MES, or operate as a controlled module within it. They can guide operators and capture task-level evidence, but they normally do not replace MES functions such as routing control, WIP status, genealogy, ERP transactions, and validated execution records.

An aerospace MES should capture the complete execution history of each serialized part, lot, assembly, material, process step, inspection, nonconformance, rework action, operator, equipment, tooling, and controlled document revision. The MES alone is not enough; genealogy depends on ERP, PLM, QMS, calibration, and supplier data quality.
