A FAIR identifier is the unique reference assigned to a First Article Inspection Report package.
A FAIR identifier is the unique reference assigned to a First Article Inspection Report package. In aerospace and other regulated manufacturing contexts, it is used to identify and retrieve the FAI record associated with a specific part, drawing revision, purchase order, or production condition.
The identifier commonly appears in AS9102-related workflows, FAI software, supplier portals, and quality records. It helps distinguish one FAIR from another, especially when there are multiple full or partial FAIs for the same part number or assembly.
A FAIR identifier is not the same as a part number, serial number, drawing number, or purchase order number, although those values may be linked to the same inspection package. It also should not be confused with the separate use of “FAIR” in data governance, where it can refer to findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable data principles.
