An inspection result is the documented outcome of checking a part, process, or characteristic against requirements.
An inspection result is the documented outcome of checking a part, material, process, or quality characteristic against defined requirements. It records what was inspected, what was found, and whether the item or condition met the applicable acceptance criteria.
In manufacturing systems, inspection results are commonly captured in MES, QMS, ERP receiving, SPC, first article inspection, or supplier quality workflows. A result may include measured values, pass/fail status, defect codes, sample size, lot or serial number, inspector identity, inspection method, equipment used, timestamp, and references to drawings, specifications, or control plans.
An inspection result should not be confused with an inspection plan or inspection requirement. The plan defines what to check and how to check it; the result records the outcome. An unacceptable inspection result may trigger a nonconformance, containment action, or review workflow, but it is not the same as a final disposition unless the governing process assigns that authority.
