A learning management system manages training content, assignments, completion records, and qualifications.
A learning management system is software used to manage training content, assign training, track completion, and maintain training records. In manufacturing, it commonly supports role-based training, refresher training, qualification tracking, and evidence that personnel have completed required instruction.
In regulated or quality-sensitive operations, an LMS may be used alongside a quality management system, MES, ERP, or workforce management system. For example, training status may be linked to a role, workstation, procedure revision, certification, or skill matrix. These links can help organizations understand whether personnel are trained for specific tasks, but the LMS itself does not execute production or approve quality outcomes.
An LMS should not be confused with an MES or QMS. An MES manages production execution and shop-floor activity, while a QMS manages quality processes such as documents, nonconformances, and corrective actions. An LMS focuses on learning delivery and training records, although it may integrate with those systems to share procedures, roles, qualifications, or audit-supporting evidence.
