A log file records technical events, often for troubleshooting. An audit trail is a controlled record of regulated or quality-relevant activity, showing who did what, when, and often why. Logs may support an audit trail, but they are not automatically acceptable as one without configuration, controls, retention, and validation.

Digital systems can reduce lot tracking errors, but not by automation alone. The main gains come from controlled data entry, barcode scanning, system-enforced genealogy, version control, and audit trails tied to ERP, MES, QMS, and receiving records. Results depend on master data quality, process discipline, integration reliability, and validation in the actual plant environment.

Sustaining AI in aerospace manufacturing usually requires more than a data science team or an IT steering committee. It needs cross-functional governance for model approval, data quality, change control, validation, cybersecurity, and operational ownership. Attach objective, traceable evidence that shows what was found, where it was found, what product or process is affected, and why the proposed disposition or corrective action is supportable. The exact package depends on customer flow-downs, QMS procedures, product risk, and how MES, ERP, PLM, and QMS records are controlled.
