Production status is the current execution state of a job, order, lot, or operation on the shop floor.
Production status is the current execution state of a production order, work order, lot, batch, serial unit, or operation as it moves through manufacturing. It indicates where the work is in the process and whether it is ready, queued, in progress, paused, on hold, completed, or otherwise awaiting action.
In manufacturing systems, production status is commonly used in MES, ERP, scheduling, dispatching, digital traveler, and shop floor reporting workflows. It may be updated by operator transactions, equipment signals, inspection results, material availability, or system rules. For example, an operation may change from released to in progress when work starts, then to complete after required steps and records are finished.
Production status should not be confused with quality disposition or inventory status. A unit can be physically complete but still awaiting inspection, nonconformance review, or release. It is also narrower than overall order status, which may include commercial, planning, shipping, or financial states outside shop floor execution.
